A Jarrow accountancy firm are getting into the community spirit this summer teaming up with a volunteer group to help conserve a historic park.
Jarrow based KP Simpson Certified Public Accountants’ tax manager Dawn Stott will be leading a team of three staff members to the town’s West Park on Tuesday 28th June to give back to the area the company call home after their recent move from Hebburn between 1-2pm.
The four will undertake gardening duties alongside community group Friends of West Park Jarrow to keep the park – which was donated to the people of the town in 1876 – looking its best.
Dawn says it’s a pleasure to get involved:
“It’s a great feeling to be given the chance to give back to the area. They’ve taken us to their hearts since our relocation and now it’s our turn to give something back.
“We might need a little help from the Friends of the Park though as we are far from experiences gardeners, but I’m sure we know a weed from a flower though so we should, hopefully be okay.”
West Park has almost 140 years’ of history with Jarrow having been donated by Gateshead’s Liberal MP Sir Walter and his wife Lady Northbourne James and features a bandstand, a children’s play area and bowling greens among other things.
It’s a short walk from KP’s new offices on Albert Road, and for the hour long volunteering spell, KP Simpson will swap the greenbacks for green fingers.
Dawn concluded:
“It’ll be nice to get out of the office for an hour and enjoy the sun. It’ll be a feel good in both senses of the word. Let’s just hope the British summertime obliges!”
